An original signed ceramic vase by Boris Vitlin (1936–2007), a Soviet-Jewish émigré artist who spent the last two decades of his life devoted to studio ceramics in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Vitlin was known for boldly shifting forms and glazes rather than sticking to one signature look, and his work is held in the permanent collection of the Ohio Craft Museum and featured in murals at the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals Baltimore.
This piece is a two-handled amphora-style vase with a rounded, slightly asymmetrical hand-built body. The glaze runs from rust-red and ochre to a smoky iridescent blue-grey, with drips and pooling that give each side its own character - no two views look quite the same.
Signed "Boris Vitlin" and impressed with his mark on the base.
Perfect vintage condition with no flaws or cracks.
Shipped carefully from Denmark.
