A lovely shallow stoneware bowl from Søholm, the Bornholm pottery that ran from 1835 to 1996.
Off-white glaze with a hand-painted blue spiral in the centre and a ring of simple little blue leaves around it, the kind of loose, confident brushwork Søholm's decorators were known for. The rim has a soft blue edge that ties the whole thing together.
Marked on the base "Made in Søholm Denmark" with the model number 3744.
At 14cm across, it's the same size as Søholm's well-known "Sonja" bowl (originally designed by Josef Simon in 1968, later relaunched by aida in 2019), so this may well be an earlier piece from that same series, though I can't confirm the exact decorator. Either way, a genuine Søholm piece with real 60s/70s character. Lovely as a catchall, a small fruit bowl, or just propped on a shelf.
